Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday said Telangana, once known for people migrating in search of livelihood, was now providing work for migrant labour after undergoing an agricultural metamorphosis under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule.
He said the transformation was not accidental but the result of the BRS president’s vision and the agricultural revolution initiated in the State.
Taking to X, Rama Rao recalled that in the past, when wells dried up due to lack of water, many considered farming to be futile. However, Chandrashekhar Rao recognised the importance of assured water availability. By taking up the historic Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, he ensured sufficient irrigation water for the agricultural sector. With water availability improving, cultivation expanded across the State. Farmers began cultivating not just one or two crops but three crops, leading to a sharp rise in demand for farm workers, he pointed out.
“Today, migrant workers from Bihar, Odisha, Maharashtra and other States are coming to Telangana and working in the agriculture fields. Telangana emerged as the country’s major agriculture hub, providing employment to many migrant workers,” Rama Rao said on X.
Through input subsidy schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, financial assistance was extended to farmers in advance by the former Chief Minister. This helped stabilise agriculture and, as cultivation expanded, farm labourers found steady employment. As a result, the village economy strengthened, he said.
“It is KCR who gave this support to the farmer and ensured employment to the workers. This is not any political claim but a fact written by newspapers. The fertile crops and the migrant workers working in the fields serve as evidence,” Rama Rao said.
Chandrashekhar Rao proved that when agriculture develops, the rural economy grows. When villages are strengthened, the entire State progresses, he added.
