Govt schools see higher attendance in Khammam on Day 1

Khammam: Coming out of the crisis caused by the Covid pandemic, schools in erstwhile Khammam reopened after nearly one-and-half-a-year on Wednesday following the State government’s decision.
Government schools registered higher attendance of students in comparison to private schools. Of the 83, 373 enrolled students nearly 35.05 per cent of the students attended classes on the first day of the opening of schools in Khammam district.
According to Educational Department officials, schools in Madhira mandal registered 60.12 per cent attendance followed by Kallur with 56.5 per cent while Khammam urban mandal registered the lowest students attendance of 19.23 per cent.
District Collector VP Gautham along with Educational Department officials inspected various schools in Mudigonda mandal and interacted with teachers and students. He directed the officials to distribute textbooks to the students.
He directed the officials to seek an explanation from a teacher T Koteswar Rao of Laxmipuram Government Primary School for going on leave on the first of reopening of schools and to direct the teacher to attend classes with immediate effect.
Gautham wanted the teachers and officials to educate parents with the help of elected members in the villages to send their kids to schools to ensure cent per cent attendance in the schools.
In Kothagudem district government schools registered 30.91 per cent attendance while in private schools it was 21.99 per cent. The overall first-day attendance was 26.33 per cent, informed the District Education Officer (DEO), Somashekhara Sarma.
“There was a festive environment in the schools across the district and we ensured that Covid-19 protocols were followed strictly at every school in the district. All arrangements were also made for serving mid-day meals to students”, the DEO told Telangana Today.
He visited several government schools in Gundala and Yellandu mandals in the district and interacted with students and teachers. Physical classes have also been started in Junior Colleges which registered about 22.37 per cent attendance in Kothagudem on Wednesday.
