Nalgonda: The failure to maintain the Mission Bhagiratha project has led to a significant increase in the use of bore wells for water extraction, despite the high fluoride content in the ground water. The situation has become particularly dire in Nalgonda, where fluoride contamination has been a long-standing issue.

Residents, especially farmers, are forced to rely on bore wells to meet their water needs, as the Mission Bhagiratha project has not been able to provide a consistent supply of safe drinking water in certain pockets. This has resulted in the reopening of old bore wells and the restoration of some that were previously defunct.

K. Subhash, a prominent water activist, emphasized the need for immediate efforts to augment the supply from Mission Bhagiratha to prevent the resurgence of fluoride-related health issues.

He has been leading a campaign against fluoride contamination and has called for sustainable solutions to ensure safe drinking water for the residents of Nalgonda.

Subhash stated that there should have been efforts to augment the supplies from Mission Bhagiratha instead of reopening bore wells, which could lead to the return of fluoride contamination.

The district administration has been urged to prioritize the maintenance of the Mission Bhagiratha project and explore alternative water sources to mitigate the fluoride problem.
