Hyderabad: Telugu actor Sapthagiri, who has been entertaining audiences with comic roles, will soon be seen in a new avatar. His upcoming temple heist suspense thriller titled ‘Guduputani’ is hitting theatres this week.
Directed by debutante KM Kumar, the story is about a love couple who takes an adventurous journey and what danger lurks on their way, what hurdles they have to face to get united – forms the plot.
Director Kumar had earlier worked as assistant director for the movie ‘Andari Bandhuvaya’ under Chandra Siddhartha. Later, he lent support as a writer for the movie ’30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela’ during the lockdown.
“Choosing Saptagiri for the protagonist is that he has a comical onscreen presence. I wanted an actor who could portray varied emotions of fear and comedy.,” he says.
The story starts with Sapthagiri who wants to marry his girlfriend Neha Solanki against the wishes of parents. Both decide to get married and venture into a forest, take shelter in a temple. Unknowing the fact that the couple are inside, the temple priest locks it from outside as it falls dark. Gripped by fear, the couple have to spend the night. This is when a robbery gang enters the temple in search of treasure. How both try to escape from the monsters led by antagonist Raghu Kunche and what’s the twist when another gang enters the temple after killing two other love birds? – is going to be an engrossing watch.
“ There are elements of suspense and thrill. The protagonist lacks courage and can’t endure dangerous and unpleasant things. He gets scared even by seeing a cockroach. How such a person struggles to escape from two armed gangs with his girlfriend by his side – is something never explored,” says director Kumar.
‘Guduputani’ was shot in locations of Mysore, Hampi, Chikmagalur. The entire shooting was completed in 16 days. The runtime has a runtime of two hours. Kumar first wanted to make the film for the OTT platform. “After approaching the makers P Srinivas Reddy and Katari Ramesh, with the story, we thought the story has a potential to pull theatre crowds, thus we made it more grand without compromising on the production standards. Music-composer turned actor Raghu Kunche will be an antagonist in the film,” he adds.
