Hyderabad: Dubbing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent Power Point presentation on Krishna waters as a “cover point presentation,” BRS leader T. Harish Rao said that the initiative was intended to cover up the Congress Party’s 50-year history of betrayal.nth Reddy
Speaking to media persons after meeting the P.C. Ghose Commission, he held the Congress party squarely responsible for all the ills of the state and blamed it for the merger of Telangana with Andhra and the allocation of insufficient waters.
He criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for misleading the public with false claims that the BRS agreed to a “permanent 299:512 water-sharing agreement” with Andhra Pradesh. He clarified that the current water utilization by the two states was based on an ad hoc understanding and decided annually by the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). Water allocations were to be made on a permanent basis by a tribunal.
Harish Rao accused Revanth Reddy of lacking clarity between temporary water utilization and permanent allocation. The Chief Minister’s claim smacks of his “ignorance on the subject and arrogance.” He alleged that Congress leaders, including Revanth Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and others, failed Telangana in the past by agreeing to an unfair allocation of 299 TMC of Krishna River water during the united Andhra Pradesh era.
He pointed out that Congress leaders, including Kiran Kumar Reddy, documented this allocation in the state assembly and in the reports presented to the Justice Sri Krishna Committee, which also assigned 968 TMC from the Godavari River. Harish Rao questioned why Revanth Reddy, who boasted about the Godavari allocation, preferred to remain silent on the injustice meted out to the state with the allocation of a mere 299 TMC from Krishna.
He emphasized that if a permanent agreement existed, he would not have fought for Telangana’s rightful share, and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao would not have needed to pursue its rightful share under Section 3 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.
The BRS leadership had tirelessly pursued this issue by meeting central leaders like Uma Bharti, Nitin Gadkari, and the Prime Minister. The Supreme Court was approached during the BRS regime to secure a tribunal for fair water distribution. Stating that Telangana was currently fighting for 763 TMC of Krishna water, he urged Revanth Reddy to focus on this instead of making false claims.
He accused the Congress government, despite being in power for over 20 months, of continuing the same ad hoc pattern of sharing. The Krishna water allocation remained the same at 299 TMC as the Congress government failed to secure Telangana’s fair share, he asserted.
