Hyderabad: In a huge relief to Mahaububabad Member of Parliament Maloth Kavitha, Justice G Sridevi of the Telangana High Court on Friday stayed the order of special sessions court for MP and MLA cases. The sessions court had sentenced the MP to six months imprisonment on charges of bribing voters during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The court had also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on her.
Six months imprisonment
Justice T Amarnath Goud of the Telangana High Court on Friday sentenced Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) to six months imprisonment. The judge was dealing with a case filed by Mohd Sirajuddin and nine others of Ranga Reddy district. The petitioners contended that their land was under consideration for conversion into the Reserved forest by acquiring their lands under the Land Acquisition Act. The court had earlier ruled that the District Collector cannot be the sole deciding officer. It also said the Forest Settlement Officer through a letter pointed out that conversion is not possible. The court then directed the officials to resolve the issue in December 2009. With the matter not making any headway, the petitioners moved the court complaining that the officer was violating the court orders. The court expressed serious dissatisfaction for keeping the matter pending for decades and allowed the contempt.

PIL against Dalit Bandhu
The Janavahini Party, Jai Swaraj Party and Telangana Republic Party filed a PIL before the Telangana High Court challenging the Dalitha Bandhu Scheme floated by the State government. The petitioners challenged the State decision in considering the Huzurabad Assembly constituency for the Pilot project by spending Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 crore. They contended the scheme as illegal, biased, unconstitutional and violates principles of natural justice as well as the provision of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951. The PIL bench of the Telangana High Court is expected to hear the case next week.
