"People from Hyderabad, Raichur and other neighbouring places are now coming to Mahabubnagar, for Covid-19 treatment," said MInister Srinivas Goud
Hyderabad: There was a time when people from Mahabubnagar used to rush to Hyderabad for treatment of various ailments, but all that has changed now, says Excise and Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud.
“People from Hyderabad, Raichur and other neighbouring places are now coming to Mahabubnagar, particularly for Covid-19 treatment, given the availability of quality treatment, drugs and medical infrastructure, including oxygen cylinders and other support systems, in both government and private hospitals,” the Minister said.
Pointing out that reasonable charges are another major factor for people making a beeline for Mahabubnagar hospitals, he said this trend reversal, however, did not happen overnight.
“During the last lockdown, the focus was on ensuring basic facilities, food and medicines to people. This year, the emphasis has been on capacity building and ensuring sufficient beds, oxygen cylinders, medicines and manpower, particularly doctors, nurses and other support staff,” the Minister told ‘Telangana Today’.
To ensure quality treatment, a separate Covid ward (360-bed) has been set up besides a 13 KL capacity oxygen plant at Government General Hospital in the town. This apart, a 100-bed facility has been set up at SVS Hospital.
“Perhaps, Mahabubnagar is the only district in the State where diagnostic centres are charging just Rs 1,999 for CT Scan. More importantly, private hospital managements have allocated 20 per cent of their beds for the treatment of the poor. These beds are identified using different-coloured stickers,” he said.
In addition, the private hospitals are also providing a seven-day Covid treatment package without oxygen for Rs 30,000 and the same package with oxygen and nine different investigation tests for Rs 60,000 in the 20 per cent allocated beds, he said.
