Medigadda barrage damage part of conspiracy, allege former ministers

Hyderabad: “The Medigadda barrage piers did not sink. They were demolished instead through a conspiracy, while the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project was deliberately put on the back burner as the Congress government turned envious of the rapid strides made in the irrigation sector during the BRS regime,” alleged BRS leaders and former Ministers V Srinivas Goud and C Lakshma Reddy on Tuesday.

Addressing a news conference at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, they criticised the BJP government at the Centre for failing to give due importance to the Palamuru Rangareddy project, even though it deserved consideration as a national project. Blaming both national parties, BJP and Congress, for the plight of Mahbubnagar district and its irrigation projects, they said Revanth Reddy had no genuine interest in completing Telangana projects.

The Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, despite completion of 90 per cent of its works, remained a non-starter. The drinking water component of the project, which required no further clearances for commissioning, was deliberately neglected. They blamed the incompetence of the government in getting the PRLIS cleared by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project, they claimed, “did not sink but was demolished”. As mentioned in the FIR, they attributed it to the blasting of barrage piers, for which a case has been registered. “The next BRS government will investigate and take action against the conspirators,” they asserted, alleging Congress involvement in sabotaging check dams every year.
