Mahabubnagar: Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds lashed several parts of erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts in the early hours of Wednesday.
The unseasonal rains brought some respite from the scorching heat for residents. However, they left crop stocks at many procurement centres soaked and damaged in both the districts. The sudden spell of rain also affected power supply in many areas.
In Mahabubnagar, Kothamolgara recorded 11 CM rainfall, followed by 10 cm rain at Parpally and Bhootpur. Mahabubnagar town received 7.5 cm rainfall and a few streets were marooned. In 60th division of the town, a few streets were covered under ankle-deep water and residents in low lying areas were worried over the rain water getting into their houses.
Similarly, in Nagarkurnool, Thimmajipeta received 8.8 cm rainfall and Amarchinta in Wanaparthy recorded 8.6 cm rainfall.
Due to the heavy rains, maize and paddy stocks that were brought to the procurement centres in Nagarkurnool got soaked. Such was the impact of the strong winds and rains that despite the farmers covering the stocks with tarpaulin covers, they got blown away, leaving the paddy stocks soaked and damaged.
Likewise, at Husnapur village in Bhootpur, the paddy stocks were covered under sheets of water in the procurement centre. Similar situation prevailed at Kosgi in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency. The paddy stocks got soaked and washed away.
Dindi and Gundlapaally in Nalgonda received 6.2 cm rainfall. Farmers in different areas complained about their stocks getting soaked and damaged due to rains.
