Heavy rains lash Khammam, crop fields inundated, streams overflow
Heavy rains in Khammam and Kothagudem triggered overflowing streams, flooding of houses, crop damage and roadblocks. Relief centres were opened in Sathupally and Wyra, while coal production was hit. Authorities urged caution as Godavari water levels continued to rise

Khammam: Several streams and tanks overflowed in erstwhile Khammam district following heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.
At Sathupally, rainwater entered houses in Kothur village. Local Inspector of Police Srihari shifted 15 families to a relief centre with the help of revenue and municipal officials.
In Wyra, Wyra tank overflowed, inundating houses at Rajiv Nagar. Local SI Rama Rao shifted the affected families to a relief centre set up at a government school.
District Collector Anudeep Durishetty inspected the Khammam–Bonakal main road at Dhamsalapuram, where traffic was disrupted due to overflowing streams.
At Kistaram village on the Khammam–Sathupally highway, rainwater overflowed onto the road up to two feet, disrupting the movement of two-wheelers and autorickshaws. Traffic resumed in the evening after water receded.
Streams and tanks in Madhira constituency overflowed, inundating crop fields in Chintakani and Bonakal mandals. Sathupally recorded 17.5 cm of rainfall, Khammam Rural 12.6 cm, Chintakani 12.4 cm, Konijerla 12 cm, Wyra and Vemsoor 11 cm, and Penuballi 10 cm in the past 24 hours, leading to flooding of agricultural fields.
In Kothagudem, the water level in the Godavari was rising. At 7 pm, it stood at 38.50 feet with a discharge of 7.41 lakh cusecs. At Chelamappagudem in Dammapet mandal, an RTC bus was stranded as a tank overflowed. Coal production was affected in Kothagudem, Manugur and Yellandu due to rains.
Khammam Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt and Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju urged the public to stay alert and avoid crossing overflowing streams. They said preventive measures were being taken in coordination with other departments to avert untoward incidents.
