Heavy rains throw life out of gear in Adilabad
Moderate to heavy rains lash Adilabad and Mancherial districts, causing overflowing streams, waterlogging in towns, and damage to standing crops like cotton and pulses. Irrigation projects report heavy inflows, prompting officials to lift gates and issue flood alerts.

Adilabad: Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of the erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday, disrupting normal life.
Talamadugu, Ichoda, Indervelli, Jainath, Gudihathnoor, Bazarhathnoor, Boath, Utnoor, Sirikonda and Neradigonda mandals in Adilabad district witnessed rains from midnight to morning. Swollen streams cut off connectivity to several remote villages. Vankathumma vagu in Utnoor and Chickmanvagu in Sirikonda mandal were overflowing.
Residents of rain-affected villages in Utnoor, Sirikonda and other parts of Adilabad said they were disconnected from the mainstream and struggling to reach mandal headquarters and towns for essential needs, including medical emergencies. They appealed to the authorities to restore connectivity and initiate flood-relief measures.
In Mancherial district, Bheemini, Kannepalli, Naspur, Hajipur, Bellampalli, Mandamarri, Bheemaram, Dandepalli, Luxettipet and Thandur mandals received rainfall ranging from 15 mm to 125 mm. Kannepalli registered the highest with 125 mm, followed by Bheemini with 94 mm, Nennal with 88 mm, and Mancherial mandal with 65 mm.
At Satya Sai Nagar in Luxettipet town, residents faced hardship as rainwater entered houses, forcing them to spend a sleepless night. In Mandamarri town, a colony was inundated. In Mancherial town, residents of LIC Colony, Tirumalagiri Colony and Ramnagar reported that water had entered their houses.
Meanwhile, irrigation projects across the four districts received heavy inflows. Kaddam, Swarna, Gaddennavagu, Kumram Bheem, Matthadivagu, Sathnala, Gollavagu and Rallavagu projects were swollen due to incessant rainfall.
At Kaddam Narayana Reddy project in Kaddam mandal, inflows were 86,994 cusecs, while outflows touched 1.56 lakh cusecs. The water level stood at 693 feet against the full reservoir level of 700 feet. Sixteen of the 18 gates were lifted to discharge surplus water, irrigation officials said in a bulletin issued at 10 am.
Standing crops including cotton, red gram, soya and green gram were damaged in several parts of the four districts, leaving farmers worried. They urged officials to conduct surveys to assess the losses and extend immediate relief. Seasonal waterfalls also came alive in the region, drawing nature lovers.
