Hyderabad: Copious inflows from the heavy rains have resulted in Himayatsagar recording huge inflows of 17,500 cusecs.
At around 6.30 am on Thursday, the reservoir received 700 cusecs of inflows, and by 7.30 am, the inflows rose sharply to 17,000 cusecs and by 9 am, around17,500 cusecs flowed in.
The HMWSSB issued the first flood warning at 7.30 am and subsequently a second flood warning at 9 am. As a result, 8 out of 17 floodgates were lifted to release the floodwater into Musi River.
The inflows into the reservoir originate from the catchment areas of Gandipet encompassing several villages such as Chevella, Vikarabad, Shankarpally, Mominpally, and Dobi Peta. Heavy rainfall in these regions results in increased runoff into the reservoir via Musi River.
In addition to the Musi, the Esi River also contributes to inflows into the Himayathsagar, which is closely linked to Osman Sagar. Areas such as Chevella, Andapur, Kotwal Peta, Narkuda, Tandur, and Moinabad drain into the Esi River, which then flows into Himayathsagar.
