Adilabad: Heavy rains continued to disrupt normal life in erstwhile Adilabad and Nizamabad districts for the second day on Thursday.

Incessant rains continued to lash several parts of Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Adilabad districts. The heavy rains prompted Collectors to announce a holiday for educational institutions in the Nirmal, Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Nizamabad districts in view of the heavy rains. Educational officials of these districts issued an order declaring holidays to schools and colleges.

Kumram Bheem Asifabad Collector K Haritha said that a control room was created in Asifabad to extend immediate emergency support to the public affected by floods. She advised the people to contact 85008 44365 to report their challenges and during emergencies. She urged them not to venture outdoors unless it was necessary. She requested them to be cautious of the rains.

Following the incessant rains, hilly streams and rivulets were swelled in Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Adilabad districts, affecting connectivity of rural parts. Roads and culverts were breached by floods, isolating scores of villages in Chintalamanepalli, Dahegaon, Penchikalpet, Bejjur, Koutala and Sirpur (T) mandals. Around 10 villages were stranded in Bejjur mandal alone.

Various irrigation projects received copious inflows following heavy rains in upstream areas. Kaddam Narayana Reddy Project in Kadem mandal centre had inflows of 77,442 cusecs. Water level in the project reached to 693 feet as against the storage capacity of 700 feet or 3.495 tmcs. Surplus water was discharged by lifting six gates out of total 18. People living downstream were alerted.

Coal production and removal of overburden in opencast mining projects of SCCL has been hit by the downpours. OCPs in Srirampur, Mandamarri, Goleti and Ramagundam Areas suspended operations of coal excavation and overburden removal. Machinery used to extract coal and overburden were stranded in the rainwater in the projects.

As per weather report on the website of Telangana Development Planning Society, the average rainfall of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district was gauged to be 121.4 mm. Bejjur mandal registered the highest rainfall by 183.5 mm, followed by Penchikalpet mandal which had 165.4 mm of rainfall.
