Hyderabad: The TRS does not perceive the Huzurabad by-poll as significantly different from any other by-election the party has contested in the past, TRS working president KT Rama Rao has asserted. “The outcome of the by-poll, whenever it is held, is not going to change the political equation in the State nor at the Centre,” he said.

Reiterating that the Huzurabad Assembly constituency has been a TRS stronghold since the party formation, the Minister said the ruling party would retain the seat. “Since its formation, the TRS has been winning all the elections in the erstwhile Kamalapur and the current Huzurabad constituency. Eatala Rajender joined the TRS in 2003 only after the party leaders won local body elections from the erstwhile Kamalapur constituency earlier,” he pointed out.

He was addressing the media after the party’s executive committee meeting chaired by TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday.

The working president said the party leadership, however, would definitely convene a meeting and chalk out its poll strategies as and when elections are announced. “The Opposition parties are getting excited about the Huzurabad bypoll. They should also realise that the Assembly elections are at least two and a half years away,” Rama Rao said.

The meeting discussed, among other issues, reorganisation of the party structure, strengthening of the cadre from the grassroots level, implementation of Telangana Dalit Bandhu, setting up of a party office in New Delhi and celebration of the party’s two decades of existence.

Responding to apprehensions raised by opposition parties over the implementation of Dalit Bandhu in the State, Rama Rao invited the leaders from both the Congress and the BJP to participate in the implementation of the pilot project in the Huzurabad constituency and ensure its success. “Leaders from both the opposition parties are welcome to actively participate, give suggestions and guide the beneficiaries to not only ensure its success but also make sure that the funds are used effectively,” he said.

On the demand for implementing BC Bandhu and similar schemes for other castes, the TRS working president quoted the Chief Minister’s remarks at the executive committee meeting that the TRS would not like to react to demands of political parties which ruled the State as well as the country for more than 70-75 years but failed to supply even quality power and drinking water during their regime.

Rama Rao asserted that the TRS would be answerable only to the people of Telangana. “If the so-called national parties — BJP and Congress — are keen on uplifting the poor, they should first implement such schemes in the States ruled by them before questioning our policies. We are committed to the welfare of all sections of society,” he said.

Elaborating, Rama Rao said the TRS government is implementing various welfare and developmental programmes with the sole objective of uplifting those at the bottom of the poverty pyramid, and the Dalits definitely comprised a majority of the poorest of the poor in the country. If Dalit Bandhu succeeds, the entire country would follow the path, he said, adding that Chandrashekhar Rao wanted the party cadre to actively participate in making the scheme a grand success by creating awareness among the people and involving them.
