Hyderabad: Brain-dead farmer’s organs save five lives through Jeevandan initiative
The family of brain-dead farmer Vampu Kondaiah from Nalgonda donated his liver, kidneys, and corneas under the Jeevandan initiative, saving five lives. His wife Yadamma’s decision is being hailed as a powerful act of compassion and awareness
Hyderabad: In a heartfelt act of generosity, the family of Vampu Kondaiah, a farmer from Nelvalapally village in Chinthapally mandal, Nalgonda district, consented to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead at a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Kondaiah became unresponsive at his home on July 21 and was initially taken to a private hospital in Devarakonda. He was later shifted to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, his condition did not improve, and he was declared brain dead on Tuesday.
Following the declaration, Kondaiah’s wife, Yadamma, gave consent for organ donation under the Jeevandan organ donation programme, a government-run initiative aimed at saving lives through cadaver organ donations.
Surgeons successfully retrieved five organs—liver, two kidneys, and two corneas—which were allocated to five patients in need of transplants.
Health officials commended the family’s noble decision, which not only gave hope to five individuals but also helped raise awareness about the life-saving potential of cadaver organ donation.
