Hyderabad: TRS Malkajgiri constituency in-charge Marri Rajashekhar Reddy took the novel initiative of setting up a Common Facility Centre for skill development and uplift of tribal women. The centre, which has been set up in the 27th ward in Dundigal Municipality with an expenditure of Rs 1.66 crore in association with the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering Technology, will train tribal women from Medchal district to manufacture traditional ornaments and garments.
It was launched by Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy in the presence of Qutbullapur MLA KP Vivekanand and MLC Shambipur Raju on Sunday. This is the third centre to be set up by Rajashekhar Reddy — the other two centres were set up at Medchal and Ghatkesar. While the Medchal centre was set up with an expenditure of Rs 2 crore, the Ghatkesar centre was set up with Rs 1.75 crore.
Malla Reddy said that in the context of traditional costumes and jewellery of Lambadas almost getting extinct, the move to set up this centre was a good initiative. He appreciated the chairman of Aeronautical Engineering Technology and Rajasekhar Reddy for striving to empower tribal women in the Medchal district.
The institute will provide an opportunity for women to get training in operating the latest equipment. The State government under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was also taking up several initiatives to uplift the downtrodden, he said. MLC Shambipur Raju and Qutbullapur MLA Vivekanand also spoke on the occasion.
