Hyderabad: The crime rate in Hyderabad has gone up by around 41 per cent during the current year with cases of bodily crimes, property crimes, child sexual abuse cases and cybercrimes showing a drastic rise.

The Hyderabad police registered 35,944 cases in the year 2024 as compared to 25,488 cases the previous year. The bodily crime cases registered were 8,447 this year while last year 5098 cases were booked and 5,328 property crime cases were registered this year compared to the previous year when 3551 cases were booked.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, CV Anand, said the police are serious in registering the First Information Report (FIR) and investigating all the offences.

“Due to free registration of the FIR there is increase in the number of cases. The population of the city is also growing,” he said.

The police are adopting a zero tolerance approach to any crime and all the wings of the city police are seriously following the cases.

“Cases are registered for cell phone snatching and dedicated teams are apprehending and arresting the offenders. Organized crimes have come down in the city and activities of all the rowdy sheeters are under surveillance and control,” said Anand.

With regard to the bouncers, the Hyderabad Commissioner said the ‘service providers’ should ensure the bouncers behaved properly. “During Sandhya theatre incident, everyone had seen how rudely these people were behaving with the crowds. Strict action will be taken against them, if they fail to comply with the laws,” warned Anand.
