Hyderabad: Two doctors from the city were allegedly duped in separate instances of online investment fraud by cyber fraudsters who allegedly promised them massive returns on their investments.
According to police, a doctor from AC Guards in Nampally came across an Instagram advertisement promising good returns on online investments. After clicking the link, he was contacted on WhatsApp by a woman who identified herself as Pratima Bansal. Trusting her claims, the doctor invested more than Rs 1.76 crore through a fake trading platform.
The platform later displayed profits of nearly Rs 14 crore in his account. “However, when he attempted to withdraw the amount, the fraudsters allegedly demanded additional payments and blocked the withdrawal process,” Cybercrime officials said.
Realising that he had been cheated, the victim approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police.
In a similar case, another doctor from Asifnagar was also allegedly lured into investing Rs 28.54 lakh by the same woman. The fake trading platform reportedly showed a balance of Rs 73.92 lakh, but the victim was denied access to withdraw the amount and was asked to deposit more money.
The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have registered separate cases and are investigating.
