Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s Sneha Singh is on a roll. The 17-year-old continued her fine run in the new season. The City golfer added her second title of the season when she annexed the Rotary South India Amateur Golf Championship in both Junior and Amateur categories with a three day Total of 7 under at Prestige GolfShire in Bengaluru on Friday. The final round score was 4 under.
“It was my career best performance. I feel so happy that I could score a three day total of 7 under. It is special,’’ said Sneha.
Sneha, who joined in BA first year in St Ann’s Women’s College of Hyderabad after completing her 12th from DPS Hyderabad, bagged her second title of the year. She had earlier won the Golden Greens tournament in Gurgaon. “I’m very happy with my form. The strokes are coming off nicely. I’m a more confident player this year. Perhaps, the hard work did help me out,’’ she said.
This tournament was full of challenges. The conditions were tough as it was windy and the fast greens. “I had to make a couple of adjustments. Luckily despite tough challenges, I could come up with good strokes. I did not feel any pressure and played my natural game,’’ said Sneha, who is playing in this tournament for the first time.
This was her fourth back-to-back tournament and she will play one more in this month. “I worked hard on my fitness. As a result, I have stood up to the challenges, both physically and mentally. It is a long season ahead and I look to a good season.’’
Sneha is three-time winner of the Hero Women’s in 2019 and also won the Noida tournament in Noida last year.
Meanwhile, Sneha won hearts when she added 2 penalties for herself on Thursday as her caddie touched the green while seeing the line. Her playing partners didn’t see but she told the referee after the round. Otherwise it could have been a 9 underscore. “I felt it was my duty to inform the referee of my caddie’s error. I don’ blame the caddie too.’’
