Hyderabad: A housewife died by suicide at Amangal in Ranga Reddy district due to alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws for additional dowry on Monday night.

The woman Vadithyanvath Madhu (25), a resident of Medigadda village in Amangal mandal of Ranga Reddy district was married to Gopi, a few years ago.

After the marriage, Gopi and his mother allegedly demanded a huge amount of money from the family of Madhu for setting up a business for Gopi. After holding discussions, the woman’s family members paid the money to Gopi.

“Since a few weeks, Gopi and his relatives were again asking Madhu to bring money from her parents to meet some expenses. She slipped into depression over the issue and doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze. She was shifted to Osmania General Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead,” said Amangal police. A case was registered.
