Hyderabad: With a large talent pool of engineers who are aerospace enthusiasts and startups in this segment, the Pratt & Whitney said that it has made Hyderabad its centre of aviation skill development and will continue to invest more in the city. The company has its one of three global training centre in Hyderabad, which was opened in 2015, and has formed partnerships with the state government-led institutions like TASK and T-Hub.
Speaking at the Wings India 2022 at the Begumpet Airport, Amit Pathak, general manager, Pratt & Whitney said, “The training centre has completed over 11,500-plus student days of training, about 39 operators have been trained across 27 nationalities and we have partnered with five States in India on skill development. We also have a parternship with the Telangana State government for various initiatives.”
Pathak also mentioned that they have tied up with T-Hub and have been running a startup challenge so as to develop solution in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision to do aircraft engine inspection. This challenge, according to Pathak, has received over 70-plus applications from startups worldwide and three solutions have been identified for the finals. Without mentioning when will the winners be announced, Pathak said, “We will be using some of the solutions developed by these startups in our engine inspections.”
The manufacturer of aircraft and helicopter engine also announced the opening of its new capability centre in Bengaluru which will employ 160 aerospace analysts and data scientists in the first tranche and is expected to begin operations by April 2022. The centre will be co-located at Collins Aerospace’s campus in Bengaluru. The centre will collaborate with teams across Pratt & Whitney’s global supply chain, and will focus on supply chain operations, procurement, and digital analytics.
