Hyderabad: Krishna Sadan and Recytronics Foundation jointly honoured 15 caregivers who have dedicated significant portions of their lives to caring for elderly family members and dependants at a special ceremony held at Best Western Ashoka, Lakdikapool, ahead of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The felicitation programme recognised individuals who made substantial personal and professional adjustments to ensure the comfort, dignity and wellbeing of elderly persons under their care. The awardees were selected through a nomination and evaluation process.
The event was attended by Yetendra Yadav, State Head (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) of HelpAge India; Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, retired IAS officer and founder of Loksatta; and Naga Chandrika Devi, Chairperson of Kinnera Welfare Society.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav described caregiving as “invisible labour” that sustains families and society, stressing the importance of publicly recognising caregivers.
Organisers said the initiative aimed to highlight the often-overlooked contributions of caregivers and encourage greater community awareness of the challenges faced by both elderly persons and those who support them.
Observed annually on June 15, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day seeks to draw attention to the abuse, neglect and exploitation of older persons. Krishna Sadan said celebrating positive caregiving practices is an effective way to promote dignity and respect for senior citizens.
