Hyderabad NGOs place water bowls to help birds, stray animals beat summer heat
As summer temperatures rise in Hyderabad, several NGOs are distributing water bowls for birds and stray animals. Volunteers are encouraging citizens to place and refill bowls regularly, helping thousands of animals stay hydrated during the hottest months of the year.

Sangareddy: As temperatures start to peak, it’s a hard struggle for birds, street dogs, cats and other animals to find water sources to quench their thirst. However, several NGOs working across Hyderabad have been doing their bit by helping them to quench their thirst by placing the water bowls.
Volunteers of these groups have been distributing water bowls to citizens and guiding them place these bowls in their locality and fill them with water regularly apart from monitoring the animals and birds movement.
In the last decade, this trend of animal and bird lovers stepping forward during the summer time and placing water bowls has increased substantially.
All for Animals Foundation, founded by Sirlu Bhupal and Shiva Kumar Varma, has been distributing 1,500 to 2,500 bowls every year. The NGO had 300 plus volunteers across Hyderabad who fill the bowls and monitor them on a regular basis. Similarly, the Citizens for Animals (CFA) has also been distributing water bowls across the city. Prithvi, a volunteer of CFA, said they started distributing bowls in 2022 with 500 bowls and now this year, increased the number of bowls to 1,500. Aasra Animal Shelter for Rescue Aid has also been distributing the water bowls and several film actors have also supported Aasra by placing water bowls in their locality and filling them regularly. Gowari Vandana of Aasara can be reached at Ph 7893993955.
Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS) has been distributing nearly 500 water bowls every year. Santoshi Pradeep Nair, cofounder of AWCS, said that March, April and May were crucial months for animals because of high temperatures and no rains. These NGOs have also been organising educational and awareness programmes for citizens, students and other communities on the need of placing water bowls during summers. The shelters of these NGOs these days witness hectic activity with volunteers preparing and painting the bowls.
