Hyderabad: With All India Industrial Exhibition Society (AIIE) deciding to suspend the annual Numaish exhibition, traders drawn from various parts of the country, who had reached Hyderabad to take part in the annual exhibition, are now looking at an uncertain future.
Following the decision to suspend Numaish, on Friday traders were seen dismantling the temporary woodwork inside their stalls. Many traders were also transporting the stock back to their godown.
This year, over 1,600 stalls were planned to be a part of Numaish and traders from across the country had arrived to take part in the exhibition. With the Omicron variant causing a surge in Covid infections, the traders who had set up stalls are now facing hardships, as they already have spent a lot towards procurement and transportation of their stock. The traders also shelled out money to deck-up up their stalls and miscellaneous expenditure was also incurred.
“The government and exhibition society members should allow us to do business for at least two weeks so that we do not incur heavy losses. We can sell a part of the stock in this duration,” said Mohammad Ishaq from Kashmir, who spent Rs 6 lakh to establish Shah Dry Fruits stall at Numaish.
Speaking to Telangana Today, another trader, who had set up a home decor stall, said that these were testing times even for local traders. “I procured material worth Rs 9 lakh from Jaipur and invested around Rs 15 lakh to set up the stall. I can’t send the stock back and I am now looking for a warehouse for storage,” says Mohammed Salim from Hyderabad.
The trader also had had set-up toy stalls at the Numaish and had spent Rs. 4.5 lakh to procure toys from different parts of the country. The members of the Exhibition Society said that they were waiting for further orders from the State government. “We are waiting till January 10 for further orders from authorities. The rental charges of the stalls that were collected from the traders are being reimbursed,” said AIIE Society, secretary, Aditya Margam.
