Hyderabad: Plans are afoot to hold a screening test, on the lines of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), for recruitment to assistant professor posts for teaching engineering and technology programmes offered by the State universities.
The test will be conducted for a total of 100 marks, which will be scaled down to 20 marks. However, if a candidate possesses a PhD degree in the eligible subject, the marks secured in the test will be normalised to 10 marks as 10 marks weightage is extended to PhD degree holders.
The State government took this decision since there is no NET, SLET or SET, and AICTE or similar regulatory body’s regulations for the technical, engineering streams or other special fields. However, there will be no screening test for recruitment to teaching staff vacancies in non-engineering and technology programmes as NET, SLET or SET are conducted in the relevant subjects.
As per the standard operating procedures for direct recruitment of teaching faculty in the engineering and technology disciplines, 50 marks are catered to academic record and research performance, 30 marks for domain knowledge and teaching skills assessment and 20 marks for personal interview.
Presently, Osmania University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad and Kakatiya University are offering engineering programmes. Along with vacancies in these universities, the government is expected to take up recruitment of teaching positions in the newly sanctioned engineering college under the Satavahana University.
