Hyderabad: For the second time in a fortnight, water levels in the twin reservoirs of the city reached the Full Tank Level (FTL) due to the heavy downpour and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) lifted more gates of both water bodies on Saturday.

Currently, four out of the 15 gates of Osman Sagar have been lifted up to five feet and eight out of the 17 gates of Himayat Sagar have been opened up to two feet.

By Saturday evening, at Osman Sagar, the water level had reached the FTL of 1,790 feet with the reservoir capacity being 3.9 TMC. The water body was receiving 1,600 cusecs of inflow.

Meanwhile, Himayat Sagar was receiving 5,000 cusecs of inflow. The water level at the reservoir was recorded at 1,763.50 feet against the FTL of 1,763.50 feet, with the reservoir capacity being 2.97 TMC and the water level in this reservoir too reached its maximum capacity.

The inflow from upstream areas into the twin reservoirs is being released into the Musi. HMWS&SB along with the Revenue department, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the police have alerted the people in low-lying areas near Musi. Special teams were also pressed into service by HMWS&SB to monitor the activity in low-lying areas.
