Hyderabad: Light-to-moderate spells of rain in several parts of Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon brought much-needed respite from the dry conditions that were prevalent for the past few days.
Several parts of the city, including Gachibowli, Madhapur, Hitec City, Tellapur, Nanakramguda, Shaikpet, Tolichowki, Kukatpally, Kapra, Moula Ali, Ghatkesar, Keesara and Charminar, received light-to-moderate rain.
The brief spells of showers were a welcome change from humid weather conditions that led to a considerable rise in maximum temperatures.
Before showers, the data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) and forecasts from IMD, Hyderabad indicated that the city and surrounding areas had experienced virtually no rainfall over the past 24-hours.
In last 24 hours since Saturday morning, the city had a maximum temperature hovering around 33.4 degrees Celsius, with Amberpet recording a maximum of 32.6 degrees Celsius. The districts also experienced warmer conditions, with Suryapet witnessing 38.3 degrees Celsius.
The dry weather conditions, prevalent for much of July, have aggravated the rainfall deficit across Hyderabad, with the cumulative seasonal rainfall since June 1 standing at 152.3 mm against the normal of 255.8 mm, a 40 percent deficit. The Medchal-Malkajgiri district has a 59 per cent rainfall deficit (102.6 mm actual/251.5 mm normal).
The IMD-Hyderabad’s 7-day forecast has indicated light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places across Telangana over the next few days.
