Hyderabad: A state-of-the-art stem cell laboratory, aimed at taking up research in the field of stem cell therapy for a wide range of medical conditions, was inaugurated at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on Monday.
Developed in collaboration between NIMS and Tulsi Therapeutics, the new facility is aimed at providing innovative, affordable, and world-class stem cell and exosome therapies for economically weaker sections, a press release said.
The new facility, which was launched by Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha aims to establish a world-class Centre of Excellence for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, ensuring that advanced therapies are developed and delivered with the highest global standards, while remaining accessible to the common citizen, press release said.
Dr Sairam Atluri, Founder and CEO of Tulsi Therapeutics, said that the company has transferred advanced stem cell technology from the US and, over a period of three years, developed a world-class stem cell and exosome platform.
This extensive research and development effort was carried out at ASPIRE BioNEST, a BIRAC-supported incubation center located at the University of Hyderabad, he added.
Senior hospital officials including Health Secretary Dr Christina G Chongthu, NIMS Director Dr Nagari Bheerappa and others were present.
