Hyderabad: Karronya Katrynn, a 19-year-old student from the city, lived her dream as the top boss at the British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad on Thursday. From meeting the Mayor of the city to learning about various start-ups working for climate change, Karronya experienced the diplomat’s life as the Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, for the day. The fifth edition of the annual event ‘High Commissioner for a Day’, this year’s competition revolved around issues related to climate change.
“I think climate change is one of the biggest issues of the day, and only we — the young generation — can do something to bring a positive change. It is only this generation that can help the situation. We all need to consciously think about the planet before doing anything. Every action can make a difference,” she said.
Karronya, who aspires to become an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS), started her day very early with several meetings lined up with people working in various sectors. Sharing about her experience, she said, “I met the Mayor, Vijayalaxmi Gadwal along with a few other GHMC corporators. I also met a few entrepreneurs who are working on the grassroot level to help the environment. Lastly, I met the female loco pilots and technicians working for Hyderabad Metro. It was very enlightening to see how much these ladies contribute to our daily lives. While many of us blame the government for our issues, I learnt that citizens too have a huge role to play to make this country better.”
The 19-year-old, who has worked in Telugu and Tamil movies, also received the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement by former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. “I started acting when I was only three years old.
Having a passion for dance I also learnt several dance forms. Since I was always passionate about doing something for the underprivileged kids, I started an academy, where I teach them classical dance,” Karronya concludes.
Meanwhile, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Andrew Fleming also accompanied Karronya to meet Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said the State government was taking all measures to ensure financial, social and political empowerment of the women in the State.
