Hyderabad: Opposing the Centre’s efforts to privatise the public sector undertakings (PSU), various trade unions comprising officers, employees and workers have decided to join hands and formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) in Hyderabad to launch a fight against such attempts. With the slogan of ‘Save PSU-Save India’, the JAC will soon launch a relentless fight against the Narendra Modi-led Central government.
Addressing the gathering at the Minister’ Quarters here on Sunday, Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar said the TRS was fully prepared to fight against the BJP-led union government to protect the PSUs which were national properties. He said due to the Centre’s unthoughtful decisions, youngsters from SC, ST and BC communities were losing out several jobs in PSUs under their respective quotas. “The Modi government has abandoned its ‘Make in India’ policy and adopted new policy of ‘Sale India’. But we will fight with the sole objective of Save PSU-Save India,” he said.
Vinod Kumar stated that the BJP-led government at the Centre has hatched a conspiracy to debilitate the PSUs which were backbone of the country’s economy and sell them to corporate companies. “We will not allow privatisation of PSUs under any circumstances. The BJP government is depriving job reservations to youngsters from SC, ST and BC communities in these PSUs by privatising them,” he said. More than 1.5 lakh people are working in different PSUs in Hyderabad alone.
Trade unions of officers, employees and workers from BSNL, LIC, BDL, HAL, BHEL, Railway HMT-Praga Tools, Midhani, DRDL, ECIL, Mint, Postal, and DLRL, along with several banks, insurance companies and others participated in the meeting. The meeting has passed a resolution opposing privatisation of PSUs.
MLC Banda Prakash Mudiraj said the Modi government has monetised about 37 PSUs in the last seven years and was trying to privatise more PSUs before its term concludes in next two years. He stated that the union government has utterly failed to safeguard the economy. He pointed out that to support BHEL, the Telangana government placed an order to the PSU for supplying massive turbines for Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. “Instead of selling PSUs, the Modi government must focus on providing them with work,” he said.
