Nirmal: Members of a Joint Action Committee proved that the statements made by Khanapur MLA Vedma Bojju were wrong in connection with a poll promise, causing embarrassment to the legislator at Khanapur mandal headquarters on the eve of the municipal polls on Tuesday.
Locals have been demanding the creation of an integrated school in Khanapur town. However, Bojju reportedly shifted the proposed school to Utnoor mandal centre, citing the lack of government land in Khanapur mandal headquarters. He reportedly challenged the locals, stating that he would visit a Pochamma temple wearing wet clothes if anyone from the town could prove him wrong by identifying a piece of government land in the mandal centre.
Responding to the challenge, locals formed a Joint Action Committee and launched protests against the MLA’s stance. Members of the JAC managed to identify a piece of land belonging to the government in Khanapur mandal headquarters. They later visited the temple wearing wet clothes, dealing a blow to the legislator at a time when the town was witnessing polls to the Khanapur municipality.
The JAC demanded that the MLA immediately shift the school from Utnoor to Khanapur mandal headquarters. They recalled that Bojju had failed to fulfil his poll promise, stating that he had assured the creation of the school if he was voted to power during the 2023 Assembly elections. They said they had been seeking the facility for a long time to ensure better quality education for local children.
