Hyderabad varsity dissolves Students’ Union 2024–25, announces fresh election schedule
The University of Hyderabad has dissolved its Students’ Union for 2024–25 to comply with Lyngdoh Committee guidelines, which mandate annual elections within a specific timeframe. With the academic session for 2025–26 having begun on July 16, the university has scheduled the election process between September 11 and 20.

Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Wednesday said the Students Union 2024-25 was dissolved in compliance with the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines.
Citing the committee report, the UoH said elections should be held on a yearly basis between six and eight weeks from the date of the commencement of academic session.
The committee report recommended that the entire election process, commencing from the date of filing of nomination papers to the date of declaration of results, including the campaign period, should not exceed 10 days, it said.
Stating the academic session for 2025-26 commenced on July 16, the UoH said the six-to-eight-week window contemplated as per the report falls between August 27 and September 10.
In the interest of ensuring strict conformity with the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines and an orderly transition to the Students’ Union for 2025–2026, the Students Union 2024-25 has been dissolved, it said.
Meanwhile, the University administration issued a schedule for Students Union elections for 2025-26, with filing of nominations scheduled for September 11 and 12 (till 1 pm).
The scrutiny of nominations is on September 12. Nominations can be withdrawn on September 13 (2 pm to 4 pm) and the final list of candidates will be released on the same day around 10 pm.
Students can campaign from September 14 to 16. There will be no campaigning from 7 am on September 18, while polling is scheduled for September 19 between 9 am and 5 pm. Counting of votes and declaration of results is scheduled for September 20.
