Hyderabad: The TGSRTC strike cast its shadow in the Old City, with the corporation managing to run only skeletal services on select routes, causing hardship to commuters.
People were seen stranded at several important bus stops such as Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Afzalgunj, Aramgarh, High Court, and Shahalibanda during the day.
The SETWIN bus services were packed to the brim, while auto rickshaws were overloaded. The auto drivers charged higher fares from passengers.
“I had to wait for more than an hour for a bus at Charminar bus stop. Finally, when a bus arrived, it was packed. Somehow, I managed to get into the bus,” said Nahida Khanum, a school teacher.
The sharing auto rickshaw drivers charged Rs. 10 extra over the regular rates. “There is an Auto LPG short supply and we are standing in long queues in the hot summer to get fuel tanks refilled. So, we are charging extra money,” said Jaffar, an auto rickshaw driver.
