Hyderabad: Monsoon usually ends up adding to the usual traffic nightmares of motorists on the city roads.

The bitter experiences of marooned roads, vehicles lined up in long and serpentine queues, and hours spent navigating through the rainwater on the roads have been common for the last few monsoon seasons.

More troublesome have been the monsoon traffic chaos in the IT corridor of the city, which now falls in the newly carved out Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC).

With monsoon starting to show signs of arrival, the officials have identified 202 waterlogging points within the CMC jurisdiction. These include 83 major problem areas, while 95 are medium and 24 are listed as minor problem areas.

To ensure traffic moves without interruption in the IT corridor within the CMC limits during the ensuing rainy season, a coordination meeting was held by the Hydraa Commissioner, AV Ranganath, with different related departments.

The officials were asked to desilt nalas and trim trees that pose a risk of falling due to storms. Ranganath suggested sending SMS alerts advising commuters to prefer alternative routes.

He asked the concerned officials to check whether the pumps were to be installed at RUBs to drain rainwater.

CMC commissioner G Srijana said that all measures would be taken to tackle rain-related issues. She said about 98% of desilting work was completed and they would soon inspect and take action on 161 dilapidated buildings.
