Sangareddy: The Rural Development Centre (RDC) at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) has launched the ‘Skill Development Centre’ to equip rural and semi-urban youth with employable technical skills, entrepreneurial abilities, and better educational opportunities. The new facility, named the NBV Skilling Centre, will serve as a hub for holistic skill development, combining both soft and technical training modules.
The Centre plans to offer programmes that will build confidence, enhance communication, and encourage innovation-driven skilling through hands-on learning and exposure to industry-relevant technologies. It aims to ensure inclusive growth across rural and semi-urban India.
The initiative was established under the Next Bharat Skilling Foundation (NBSF), a collaboration between IITH’s Rural Development Centre, Next Bharat Ventures, an initiative of Suzuki Motor Corporation, and the Deshpande Foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, IITH Director Prof B S Murty said the Rural Development Centre, launched in 2020, was envisioned to support rural progress through innovative technologies. “The new Skill Development Centre takes this vision forward, empowering India’s youth through education, innovation, and real-world skill building,” he said.
Chairperson of RDC, Dr Satish Regonda, said the new centre would strengthen the RDC’s ongoing work across its three core themes of education, environment, and entrepreneurship.
