Hyderabad: Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Director General Dr Shekhar C Mande said India was the only second country in the world to fly a flight with indigenous developed biofuel. CSIR-IIP, Dehradun has been conducting a programme on Bio-Jet fuel and demonstrated it by flying the IAF aircraft with blended bio-jet fuel, he said on Thursday.

He virtually addressed at the Administrative Staff College Public Lecture on “Science and Technology Innovations: Primary vehicle for gaining our rightful place in world order”.


Stressing on the measures for sustainable future, he said it was time not to depend on fossil fuels and to focus on generating alternate fuels like Biomass as fuel. “CSIR developed India’s first indigenous fuel cell car with industry partner KPIT,” said Dr Shekhar C Mande.

On the SARS-COV-2 diagnostic innovation – FELUDA – world’s first CRISPR Gas-9 based COVID-19 testing kit; he said the paper-strip based simple test delivers results in 45 to 50 minutes in a laboratory. “The test is traceable, transparent, and trusted, with digital quality control and an AI-based result reporting tool,” he explained.

Listing about Indian contributions to scientific developments from ancient times, he said the indelible ink developed by CSIR- National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in 1961 was now being used in many countries across the world.

ASCI Chairman K Padmanabhaiah gave delivered his opening remarks and Director General Dr Nirmalya Bagchi introduced the guest speaker and presented the vote of thanks.
