Hyderabad: In a puzzling turn of events, several popular apps and digital platforms faced service disruptions across India on Saturday, leaving users wondering what exactly is going on?

From messaging apps likes WhatsApp to financial tools like Google Pay, UPI services, and even the Bank of Baroda app — downtime seemed to ripple across categories. Social media apps including Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and even video streaming platforms like YouTube were also reported to be glitchy or completely inaccessible at various points during the day.

Adding to the mystery, even major internet service providers like Airtel and Jio also faced down times, even as users from across the country took to social media to report the outages. Meanwhile Downdetector — a website that tracks real-time service issues — showed spikes in complaints for nearly all of these platforms.

Although minor hiccups  for apps are not uncommon, such a wide array of disruptions across unrelated platforms raises eyebrows. Is it a coincidence? A cascading server issue? Or perhaps a deeper, as-yet-unexplained technical anomaly?

As of now, no official statement has been released by Meta, Google, or the major ISPs regarding a common cause.

Some users have speculated about possible cyber attacks or server overloads, but no confirmation has emerged so far. What do you think? Are we under a cyber attack?
