Adilabad: Jaithuguda, a remote village in Narnoor mandal has been successful in combating the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. The villagers have been following self-lock down by preventing entry of outsiders and by wearing face masks and practising physical distance since the first week of April.
A wooden gate was set up at the entrance of the village. A board tagged to the gate reads: Do not enter the village without prior permission. A fine of Rs 1,000 is imposed against those who step inside without wearing a face mask. It is Rs 5,000 if anybody forcefully strays into the village. Two phone numbers are mentioned for contacting, if required.
Sarpanch Rathod Govind Naik told Telangana Today that the village had not registered a single positive case of Covid-19 so far. He attributed the success to the self-lockdown system. He said that residents of the village were strictly following Covid-19 guidelines such as wearing face masks, practising physical distance and sanitisation of hands for curtailing the spread of the virus.
Inhabited by 40 households, mostly tribals, that account for a population of around 120, the tiny habitation is located around 8 kilometres from Narnoor mandal centre.
