Sangareddy: Jana Sakthi Labour Cell State President, G Surendar demanded the management of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to increase the salary of contract workers of BHEL to Rs 30,000 per month from existing Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000.
Felicitating the contract workers and women sanitation workers a day ahead of May Day in BHEL township on Thursday, Surendar said that the BHEL management has been exploiting the contract workers for years by paying just Rs 500 per day as a wage even though the Centre had fixed the minimum monthly wage at Rs 30,000.
He demanded that the management increase the workers’ salaries to Rs 30,000 per month without any conditions, to put an end to years of injustice.
Surendar said that the contract workers have been finding it difficult to lead a decent life even after working for 30 to 40 years in the company and contributing to its growth. There were nearly 2,000 contract employees working in BHEL. Union leaders Pentaiah, Balaiah, Ramesh and others were present.
