Hyderabad: In a huge relief to students, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad on Monday approved promotion of BPharmacy students from the third year to the fourth year. This move will benefit a total of 323 students who had been earlier detained for a lack of enough credits.
In a proceeding issued on Monday, JNTU-Hyderabad Registrar, Dr K Venkateswara Rao, said the university, based on the committee recommendations, promoted R22 (regulations 22) BPharm students from third year to fourth year on “humanitarian grounds”. He said the promotion will be applicable to R22 BPharmacy 2022 admitted batch of students only.
Students Protection Forum activists Javvaji Dileep and Rahul Naik, who organised a series of protests on the issue, welcomed the university’s decision and expressed their happiness. They called it a victory for students and the forum.
The issue stemmed from the delay in conduct and declaration of BPharmacy first year and second semester regular and supplementary, and first year first semester supplementary exams.
Earlier, due to private colleges’ protest and non-cooperation, BPharm first year second semester regular and supplementary and first year first semester exams, which were to be conducted on November 4 and 6, 2025, were deferred. The exams were re-conducted on January 27 and 29, resulting in a delayed announcement of results. This was followed by the release of a credit-based detention list.
Following SPF activists staging a protest on the university campus and representations from the colleges, demanding promotion of detained students, the JNTU-Hyderabad constituted a committee.
After thoroughly examining the issue, the committee noted that by time the BPharmacy first year second semester regular and supplementary and first year first semester exams results were declared, students were writing the fourth year first semester exams.
“Based on the committee recommendations, the JNTU-Hyderabad VC accorded permission to promote the R22 BPharmacy students from third year to fourth year on humanitarian grounds,” said Dr Rao.
