Hyderabad: Two days after a clash between two groups led to tension, Karmanghat on Thursday remained peaceful.
However, as a precautionary measure, the Rachakonda Police continues to be on alert. The police deployment with Vajra vehicles were at the spot and visible policing too was stepped up in the surrounding residential colonies.
“The situation is under control and no untoward incident had occurred since two days. However, we have additional force deployment and pickets for few more days,” said a senior police official.
Vanasthalipuram SI Madhava Reddy, who suffered a head injury in the stone pelting on the night of the incident, underwent a surgery at a private hospital in Kanchanbagh. His condition is said to be stable.
Senior police officials said investigation into the incident is going on and added, “a total of five cases have been registered and seven persons were taken into custody in connection with the communal tension caused that night.”
Meanwhile, mild tension prevailed in some parts of the city today when protests were organized condemning the attack on cow vigilantes. Several activists of Bajrang Dal and BJP staged a protest at Saidabad and at IS Sadan, protestors attempted to burn effigies and take out a protest rally which resulted in traffic congestion. The Saidabad police stepped in and took the protestors into preventive custody.
On Monday night two groups clashed after cow vigilantes caught a vehicle allegedly transporting cattle to slaughterhouse. Both groups started attacking and chasing each other and pelted stones, apart from damaging police vehicles. Cases were booked in Saroornagar and Meerpet.
