Khammam: As many as 240 double bedroom houses built by the State government at Tekulapally in Khammam would soon be handed over to the beneficiaries selected from poorer sections.
MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao, who is expected to visit the district soon, will inaugurate the houses and take part in the house-warming ceremony. It may be noted that the Minister handed over a total of 1008 houses built at Tekulapally to the beneficiaries last year.
A massive housing complex named KCR Towers with 52 blocks has been developed at Tekulapally in Khammam Municipal Corporation’s 7th division with the initiative by Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar. It is the largest double bedroom complex built in erstwhile Khammam.
In all, there are a total of 1,248 houses in the complex. Facilities such as park, open gym, Mission Bhagiratha water, internal roads, drains, street lights, fencing, a primary health centre, mini Anganwadi centre are provided so as to give a dignified look to the housing complex.
These houses are built as per the standards suggested by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who wanted to provide livable and dignified double bedroom houses for the poor families to preserve their self esteem, Ajay Kumar told Telangana Today.
Each house is built in an area of 560 sq. ft with two bedrooms, a hall, a kitchen and two toilets. In order to make the housing complex look like a model residential colony, the government laid CC roads, planted saplings along the roadsides and street lighting.
‘The government has spent Rs 6.29 lakh on each house, of that Rs. 1.24 lakh spent on developing infrastructure. Telangana is the only State in the country providing double bedroom houses to the poor across the State by spending thousands of crores of rupees and Chandrashekhar Rao is the only Chief Minister who cared about the welfare of the poor’ Ajay Kumar noted.
It is planned to set up a police outpost, sub-station and install CCTV cameras and establish a ‘KCR Towers Welfare Association’ to look after the maintenance of the houses, to address problems, if any.
