Khammam: Commissioner of Police (CP) Vishnu S Warrier directed the district police to work towards reducing road accidents in the district. Speaking at a crime review meeting held through video conference here on Thursday he said the focus should be at the field level to significantly reduce the number of accidents by analysing the ongoing accidents on national and state highways and rural roads across the district.
Speed limiters and signboards should be set up on the roads in Khammam Rural, Konijerla and Wyra mandals. Speed controllers should be constructed where required on roads connecting different villages and areas, he suggested. The police department was preparing to take action at the village level for crime control. Steps to educate people to install community CCTV cameras as part of ‘Nenu Saitham’ initiative under the limits of all police stations have to be taken, Warrier said.
The CP asked the police officials to send proposals to invoke the PD Act against criminals who commit illegal acts and serious offences. He suggested that a strong surveillance system has to be set up to identify sources of cannabis and gutkha supply from the district borders. Individuals involved in the supply of ganja and gutkha must be identified and register cases against them to curb smuggling. Special attention should be paid to expedite the investigation in the POCSO Act, crime against women and SC/ST cases and file the charge sheet in a timely manner.
As part of community policing, the youth should be given indoor and outdoor training in view of future police recruitment notification, Warrier added.
