Khammam: Minor girl set ablaze last month succumbs
The last rites of the girl were performed at her native village Pallegudem in Khammam (Rural) mandal in the district amid tension as activists of Left wing and women's organisations protested and tried to stop it demanding stringent punishment to the accused.

Khammam: The 13-year-old girl who was set ablaze allegedly by her employer’s son in Khammam a few weeks ago died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad on Thursday night.
The last rites of the girl were performed at her native village Pallegudem in Khammam (Rural) mandal in the district amid tension as activists of Left wing and women’s organisations protested and tried to stop it demanding stringent punishment to the accused.
Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MLA K Upender Reddy, District Collector RV Karnan and Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqubal paid homage to the girl and extended their condolences to the family of the deceased girl. The Minister handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to the family.
Speaking to the girl’s parents, Ajay Kumar assured all support from the State government for the bereaved family.
Tribal, Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod, in a statement issued in Hyderabad, expressed grief at the death of the girl. Those responsible for her death would not be spared and punished seriously as per the law, she asserted.
The minor girl was set ablaze on September 18 at Parsibandham area in the city but the incident came to light only on October 5. The girl with 70 per cent burns was being treated secretly at a private hospital in Khammam and later was shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment on the directions of Satyavathi Rathod.
The girl’s father, in a complaint to the police, stated that she was a Class 4 student and worked as a maid at the house of Allam Subba Rao, whose son Allam Maraiah allegedly tried to rape her and when she resisted him, doused her with petrol and set her ablaze.
One town police booked a case against the accused under IPC Sections 376 r/w 511, 307, 354,506 and Section 10 of POCSO ( Protection of children sexual assault, sexual harassment) Act and remanded him.
The DM&HO Dr. B Malathi on October 8 issued notice to Dr. Bapu Rao who runs Sri Pooja Hospital for treating the girl against rules, without informing the police and seized the hospital.
