Hyderabad: Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy expressed concern over allegations that coal worth Rs 1,600 crore had disappeared from Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). He wrote a letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy seeking an inquiry into the allegations. He also stressed the need to examine whether there were adequate safeguards, mechanisms and internal controls for the effective functioning of SCCL.
Referring to news reports on the disappearance of 40 lakh tonnes of coal, the Union Minister said that given SCCL’s financial position due to unpaid dues exceeding Rs 51,500 crore from the Telangana government, these allegations could further hamper the organisation’s financial stability. “Such allegations, if not examined and addressed promptly, may undermine SCCL’s financial position and impede its growth,” Kishan Reddy said. SCCL is jointly owned by the Central government and the State government.
