Kothagudem: In a good example of people-friendly policing, Cherla Inspector of Police (CI), Boddu Ashok, came to the rescue of a pregnant woman of a remote tribal hamlet and helped her get to the hospital for delivery on Monday.
The woman, Kalumu Budri of Chennapuram village in Cherla mandal in the district, was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and faced difficulty in reaching the Primary Health Centre (PHC) located at a distance of 30 km at Satyanarayanapuram due to the non-availability of ambulances.
The CI, on coming to know about her predicament through a scribe in the mandal, responded immediately and arranged a vehicle at his expense to shift the woman to the PHC on time. The woman gave birth to a baby girl and both mother and child are in good health, sources said.
The baby was later taken to Koyyur government hospital for vaccination. The woman’s husband Deva and villagers thanked Ashok profoundly for his timely response by arranging an ambulance.
