Collector Jitesh V Patil tests a mud brick making machine at a training programme at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem district
Kothagudem: District Collector Jitesh V Patil stressed on the need of constructing houses with soil and other natural resources found in villages with low investment.
He along with ITDA project officer, B Rahul participated in a two-day hands-on training programme on building stabilised mud structures at Youth Training Centre at ITDA, Bhadrachalam on Tuesday.
The youths were being trained in constructing low cost, eco-friendly and durable structures in rural areas with rammed earth foundation and compressed stabilised earth blocks (CSEB) methods. The methods would be used to build mud houses, toilets, bathrooms and Anganwadi centres.
Patil said that in villages, the tribals could lead a healthy life by building houses with mud without harming the environment and also by preserving their customs and cultural traditions. In every village various types of stones were available in ponds and streams.
Enough mud could be found in farm fields for making bricks of the required size. With such bricks, stones and bamboo sticks one could complete beautiful house structures in a short time. In neighbouring States like Karnataka and Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, most of the houses were made of mud, he noted.
As the houses were made of mud, the weather inside would be pleasant in all seasons and one could live in good health without any ailments. The youths should implement what they learnt in the training in their villages; educate and encourage others to build houses with mud instead of cement, Patil said.
The project officer Rahul said that by reducing the use of cement and sand, one could make bricks in villages by mixing the clay and stones found naturally. The training would be useful for the tribals to take up constructions of schools, kitchen sheds, dining halls and Anganwadi centres.
DRDA project director Vidya Chandana, assistant project officer (General) David Raj, JDM Harikrishna, trainer Sudhakar and others were present.
