Kothagudem tops Telangana in Maoist surrenders amid rising crime rate
The Annual Report 2025 released by SP B Rohith Raju highlights a mixed crime trend in Kothagudem. While overall crime and POCSO cases rose, incidents of violence against women, cybercrimes, and ganja cases declined. The district recorded 6,180 cases this year, up from 5,636 last year.

Kothagudem: Overall crime rate and POCSO cases went up while violence against women as well as ganja cases decreased in 2025 in Kothagudem, which topped the State in Maoist surrenders.
Speaking to the media after releasing Annual Report 2025 here on Saturday, Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju informed that due to increased surveillance on border areas, the smugglers were taking alternate routes like Rajahmundry, Jagdalpur and others to smuggle ganja.
They were avoiding the Bhadrachalam route situated at the tri-junction of Odisha-Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. 70 ganja cases were reported and 221 persons arrested in the current year as against 112 cases in 2024.
The crime rate has increased by 9.65 percent compared to last year, in which 5,636 cases were registered, while in the current year 6,180 cases were registered. Last year, POCSO 105 cases were registered while this year 128 cases were registered.
Compared to last year in which 420 cases of crimes against women were registered this year 384 cases were registered resulting in a decrease of 8.57 percent. Of the 307 property cases reported in this year, 141 cases detected and Rs 1.21 crore worth property recovered.
There has been a fall in cybercrimes, with 196 cases registered this year as against 221 cases in the previous year. Of the 1,824 cases resolved in the district, life imprisonment was given in seven cases, 20 years in prison in two cases, five were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
In Maoist-related incidents, four prime accused were arrested in five cases. As many as 326 Maoists, including four DVCMs and 22 PPCM/ACMs, surrendered in Kothagudem which topped the State in Maoist surrenders, the SP noted.
The district police aim to focus on creating awareness among the rural masses on POCSO Act, cybercrimes and road safety besides taking measures to curtail supply of ganja to stop local consumption. ‘Chaitanyam’ , an anti-drug campaign by the district police, yielded good results, he added.
Bhadrachalam ASP Vikrant Kumar Singh, DSPs Chandra Bhanu, Shaik Abdul Rahman, Sathish Kumar, Ravinder Reddy and Mallaiah Swamy, SB Inspector Srinivas, DCRB Inspector M Srinivas and others were present.
