Hyderabad: The discussion on the Appropriation Bill in the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday witnessed uproarious scenes triggered by sharp exchanges between BRS working president and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy as the latter, in the process of defending his government and its failures, ventured to make personal attacks on the BRS leadership including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Speaking on the Bill, Rama Rao made a fiery counter attack on Revanth Reddy, stating that governance was not about delivering punchlines but about addressing the needs of the people. Pointing out that the Chief Minister had failed to fulfil key promises, including the complete implementation of the loan waiver scheme, he challenged Revanth Reddy to prove that even one farmer in the Chief Minister’s own native village, Kondareddipalli, or elsewhere in his constituency, Sircilla, had benefited from a 100 per cent loan waiver.

He went as far as to offer his resignation from politics if the Congress claims were substantiated. Calling out his hypocrisy, charging him with political incompetence coupled with financial mismanagement, Rama Rao questioned Revanth Reddy’s moral authority, stating that the Chief Minister had dragged families, including minors, into political mudslinging.

“Does only Revanth Reddy have a family? He should know his own history before preaching morals,” he remarked, challenging Revanth Reddy’s personal conduct and leadership style.

Dismissing Revanth Reddy as a political liability, he stated that “wherever Revanth goes, defeat follows.” He cited recent election results as evidence, asserting that Revanth Reddy’s speeches alienated voters. He expressed confidence that the people of Telangana would reject the Congress in future elections. The results are clear to the public. “The more days Revanth Reddy speaks, the better. After hearing him, no one will vote for Congress for another 20 years,” he said.

Also labeling him as “Rifle Reddy,” he said the Chief Minister was undermining Telangana’s interests and contrasted him with Chandrashekhar Rao, whom he called “the father of Telangana”. Revanth Reddy would certainly find himself in the annals of history as the “father of vulgar narratives”, he said.

Turning to State finances, he said the Revanth Reddy government was marked by fiscal contradictions and mismanagement. He questioned the Chief Minister’s claims of both bankruptcy and huge debt accumulation, demanding clarity. He highlighted the lack of funds for key welfare schemes while pointing out lavish spending on his pet projects. Questioning the stark contradictions in the Chief Minister’s fiscal narrative, he pointed out that despite claiming bankruptcy, the Chief Minister claimed to have managed to mobilise loans of Rs 1.58 lakh crore.

Calling this the consequence of Revanth Reddy exhibiting two different identities, he wondered “Is the Ramu speaking outside correct, or the Remo speaking in the Assembly correct? Revanth Reddy must clarify,” he demanded. “They boasted investments poured in like a flood at Davos and claimed welfare is outstanding. Then why did the Chief Minister say the State’s revenue dropped by Rs 71,000 crore? He must explain,” he demanded, also highlighting the lack of funds for critical commitments.

“There are no funds for employees’ DA, no funds to implement six guarantees, no funds for a tola of gold. Yet, the Chief Minister talks of tenders worth Rs 20,000 crore for HMDA, Rs 7,000 crore for GHMC, Rs 14,000 crore for water works, Rs 4,400 crore for Kodangal lift irrigation and Rs 5,000 crore for a 10-lane road in the Future City. They talk of beautifying the Musi with Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Where are these funds coming from?” he asked.

He questioned the government’s priorities, asking, if there was money for all this, why were there no funds for the six guarantees or to implement the Rs 2,500 per month promise for women.
