Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed his anguish over the alarming rise in food poisoning incidents and student deaths in the government-run Gurukul residential schools. Holding the government responsible for its criminal negligence, he demanded urgent corrective measures.
“In one year of Congress rule, at least 1,000 students have suffered food poisoning and around 100 have died,” he said, reacting to the hospitalisation of Gurukul students due to food poisoning and news reports about the death of at least 50 students in the last one year.
Taking on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy who holds the Education portfolio, Rama Rao questioned his inaction despite recurring incidents of food poisoning and student deaths. He pointed out that despite him raising concern repeatedly, the Chief Minister and his Ministers tried to deflect, divert and whitewash the issue instead of taking any action.
“Any responsible Chief Minister would have taken corrective measures. But you didn’t even have time for a single review,” he remarked. He cautioned that while once or twice can be considered a mistake or an error, repeated incidents were nothing but criminal negligence, inane apathy and arrogance of the government.
In a direct appeal to Revanth Reddy, Rama Rao questioned him as a father to another father, whether he would remain silent if his own child was among the victims or if his family got affected due to the criminal negligence of the government. “If your children were fed poison instead of food, would you tolerate it? Who should be hanged now?” he asked.
